Intrusion Detection and Perimeter Management

MultiSense is a comprehensive solution that combines Perimeter Security and Perimeter Management in a single system.

I. Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PIDS)
Secure perimeter boundaries (e.g. fences, walls, doors, and gates) against Cut and Climb attacks to prevent unauthorised access or escape.

II. Perimeter Monitoring
Monitor the perimeter using interactive maps so that key information such as intrusion events and access statuses are accessible at a glance.

III. Perimeter Control
Connect all points of entry around the perimeter so that they can be monitored and controlled from one or multiple centralised locations.

I. Perimeter Intrusion Detection

MultiSense System Architecture

The core of the MultiSense system is a network that is distributed along the perimeter boundary. It consists of a chain of Nodes that communicate 24/7 in real-time to the centralised MultiSense Hub. The Nodes allow for different sensor types to be connected. This design flexibility enables sensors to be “Mixed and Matched” anywhere along the perimeter boundary to address variation in the perimeter structure or integrate perimeter access points such as gates, barriers, turnstiles or bollards.

The data collected by intrusion detection sensors is centrally analysed by the Hub. Carefully refined algorithms and cross-correlation techniques taking all distributed sensors into account enable MultiSense® to reliably differentiate between environmental influences such as rain, snow or hail and intrusion activity such as cutting or climbing the perimeter barrier.

Intrusion Detection Sensors

Every perimeter has its own unique requirements when it comes to security. MultiSense has been designed to address these individual needs by combining different sensor types within a single system. Using the right sensor for the job eliminates ”blind spots” that would be difficult to detect without such flexibility.

VibraTek® Plus
Fence Detection

Fence Detection Sensor
Microphonic Sensor cCble

The tried-and-trusted linear acoustic microphonic sensor cable protects more than 500km fenceline worldwide. VibraTek Plus is ideal for metal and wooden fence detection because it offers continuous detection, leaving no room for blind spots. The unique characteristic of this sensor is the ultra-high-quality signal it generates. The signal is typically 1,250 times greater than the background noise. The resulting signal-to-noise ratio is key in effective intrusion detection.

VibraFon®
Wall Detection

Seismic Sensor

By their nature, seismic sensors are incredibly sensitive. As such, VibraFon sensors have ideal characteristics to detect vibrations transmitted along the wall as an intruder (or escapee) attempts to climb-over or break through a perimeter wall. VibraFon will detect the drilling of small holes into the perimeter as well as attempts to use a ladder to overcome the perimeter wall. At the same time, they will ignore vibrations caused by traffic, rain or hail.

VibraTilt
Door and Gate Detection

Acceleration & Tilt Sensor

This 3-axis acceleration and tilt sensor adds a new dimension to the MultiSense system. Besides its ability to detect vibrations, VibraTilt can detect tilting or lifting of gates or windows. The MEMS technology allows for tilt detection to within 0.1 degree on 2-axis planes using mathematical correlating from a 3-axis semi-conductor. These characteristics combined with its very compact size make VibraTilt not only highly effective but also a visually appealing option to detect perimeter access points.

Redundant System Design

The entire solution follows a fail-safe design principle. MultiSense avoids any “single point-of-failure”.

Physical sensor loss can be limited to only a small area of monitoring in a worst-case scenario without affecting neighbouring sensors or zones.

The main Hub server can be installed as a redundant Master & Slave configuration with automatic failover.

In the event that the Master experiences a failure, the Slave system automatically takes over within seconds with no user intervention required.

The inter-node bus connectivity as a loop allows for the power and communications to be re-routed upon attack/sabotage to minimise the damage. The system self-heals within half a second and maintains operation upon restoration.

All system configuration files are being fully encrypted using AES-128. JWT encrypted tokens and SSL 1024-bit user interface encryption ensures that no unauthorised users can gain access to the system.

Cyber Secure and Tamper Proof

Numerous cybersecurity measures prohibit unauthorised system access, data manipulation and inclusion of malicious hardware. The MultiSense network incorporates as full AES 128-bit CBC with key exchange authentication. The key acts as a certification of any given node device which ensures that if any malicious or unauthorised hardware is introduced to the system, the user is alerted immediately.

Using encrypted packets to carry the data around the MultiSense Bus prevents unauthorised data access (network snooping). The hashing algorithms in place prohibit altering important information (network spoofing). Affected packets will be dropped and ignored. Sustained interference would yield a device missing and under sabotage which would cause a front-end alert to the staff.

II. Perimeter Monitoring

One of the main challenges in Perimeter Management is keeping an overview. MultiSense brings a clear 2D or 3D model of the perimeter to your web browser (no internet access required).

  • Monitor the live status of all perimeter accessses (open, close, opening, closing, error etc.)
  • Receive instant notifications about any intrusion events and the intrusion location along the perimeter boundary
  • Auto-record any alarms or access status changes in an audit log
Perimeter Visualisation

III. Perimeter Control

The digital push button panel enables one or multiple operators to control perimeter acccesses cenrally from one or multiple locations. Each control panel can be highly customised to meet the needs of the individual site.

The digital push button panel is browser based which means it runs cross-platforms (e.g. Windows, Linux) and cross-devices (e.g. PC, tablet) without any internet connectivity. It can be operated via touch gestures or using mouse controls.

  • Control your perimeter accesses (e.g. doors, gates, barriers, bollards, turnstiles) centrally
  • Switch between different control panel views within a single control device
  • Control sites locally during the day and control multiple sites remotely from one location at night
  • Quickly adapt the digital contol panel to structural changes within your perimeter
  • All events are logged and can be traced back to the individual user that was logged in
